Message from the General Secretary of the Association to The Pope: A Call for Peace

Franco Abdelkader Omeich, General secretary of the association, took a significant step reflecting human solidarity and the international community's commitment to peace by delivering a letter to Pope Francis, calling for "peace in Lebanon and the entire world."

In a statement, Omeich noted that “this message comes at a time when many children, women, and the elderly in Lebanon are suffering from the ravages of war and conflict. It highlights the importance of alleviating human suffering, especially for children, who represent the future of societies.”

The statement added: "The letter emphasizes that the loss of any child's life is not just an individual tragedy, but a shattered dream and a missed opportunity for a better future. Children are the hope, bearing within their hearts big dreams and boundless ambitions. However, when these dreams collide with the harsh realities of war and conflict, the entire society suffers."

Omeich clarified: “In his response to the letter, the Pope mentioned that he prays daily for Lebanon, reflecting his deep concern for the humanitarian situation in the country. His call for a ceasefire is not just an expression of sympathy but a plea for everyone to work towards achieving peace and stability. Prayer, as we all know, is the first step toward change, but it requires concrete actions from all parties.”

He continued: "The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote peace and justice worldwide. It calls on everyone—governments, non-governmental organizations, and individuals alike—to unite in protecting the lives of children and ensuring their rights. Providing a safe and stable environment for children is a collective responsibility that requires joint action and cooperation across all sectors of society."

The statement concluded: “The letter Omeich sent to the Pope remains a symbol of hope and optimism. It reminds us that peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, equality, and opportunity. Through our collective efforts, we can build a better world, where children's dreams flourish rather than shatter. Let us heed the call for peace and be part of the solution—for our children and for a brighter future for all.”
